Best Jubilee-themed things to do in London in June

Dine like the Queen at Shangri-La The Shard's afternoon tea

If you're hoping to catch a glimpse of the colourful flypast for the Platinum Jubilee Trooping the Colour on Thursday 2 June, there's no better place than from London's tallest hotel. Shangri-La occupies eighteen floors of The Shard, Western Europe's tallest building.

And if you're after a truly royal experience, Shangri-La's signature restaurant TING is now taking bookings for their Jubilee Skyline Afternoon Tea. Fragrant scones are served with traditional jam and clotted cream, while delicious pastries pay homage to the Queen's favourite sweet treats and savoury classics form the perfect, quintessentially British afternoon tea experience. Enjoy a sip of specially-blended tea or enjoy TING's twist on the Queen’s favourite drink, the Dubonnet, with a new Jubilee gin cocktail.

Raise a glass to the Queen with Jubilee themed cocktails

The capital's ultra-fancy ME London hotel has concocted an incredible Jubilee-themed cocktail menu in honour of Her Majesty's 70 years on the throne.

Each of the eight perfectly thought-out, impressively presented drinks makes homage to the Queen's reign, with ingredients that nod to the monarch's personal preference. The exquisite cocktails all pack a punch and are garnished with little extras to mark the occasion - think rose petals, blackberry powder and our personal favourite, a Haribo gummy bear.

If you only treat yourself to one cocktail – though we wholeheartedly recommend trying them all, it's a Bank Holiday! -  opt for Long Live The Queen. It's a smokey negroni, which comes presented in a Beauty and The Beast style glass cloche. Your expert cocktail-maker fills the cloche with smoke, which escapes when the glass dome is lifted, for an amazing drink and a wow-worthy spectacle all in one.

Enjoy Queen-themed art at ME London

The ever-impressive ME London hotel has installed an art exhibition honouring Her Majesty, with a collection of bold and bright artwork inspired by the Queen.

Named 'Queen of Arts' the beautifully curated collection is a far cry from traditional portraits of the Queen. These are punchy, attention-grabbing artworks that delve into different aspects of the Queen's reign. From bold and colourful creations, to unusual and intriguing interpretations of what it means to be the Sovereign in Britain today, the artists have used their own styles to pay tribute to the longest-serving monarch in British history. Loose Women star Andrea McLean snapped one up on her visit to the hotel, so you're in good company if you buy one!

The works of art are displayed on the ground floor of the hotel, in the architecturally-inspiring Marconi Lounge, so post-culture-hit you can indulge in one of the bar's Jubilee cocktails.

Enjoy a burger fit for royalty

London’s favourite burger hotspot Hachè is set to launch a royally good burger in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee - the Coronation Fried Chicken Burger (£15), available from 1st June- 31st August. The crowning jewel in the burger is the chicken – double dipped in Greek yoghurt and masala spices, tossed in curried flour and tandoori masala coating before being fried until extra crispy and topped with a classic coronation sauce. The chicken is placed on a throne of baby gem lettuce, lime, chilli and coriander, and finished with toasted almonds and a ciabatta or brioche bun crown. Taking inspiration from the dish created for Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation luncheon in 1953, this burger truly is fit for royalty.

Step into the roaring 1920s with The Great Gatsby immersive theatre

The heady glow of the jazz age is brought to life with effortless glamour at The Great Gatsby immersive experience. This dazzling experience is the perfect excuse to don your finest flapper dress and dance the evening away at one of Jay Gatsby's infamous parties, led by a team of talented actors.

From the moment you enter Gatsby's Mansion, you will feel like you have been transported back to the roaring 1920s.

What makes the experience so enchanting is the ability for you, an audience member, to slip in and out of the action whenever you feel comfortable doing so. Show off your best charleston on the stage as you delight in Daisy Buchanan's scandal, or watch silently from the darkened sidelines with a glass of liquor. As F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote himself: "And I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy.

Take your next Chinese meal to new heights

Located at the top of The Now Building in central London is Tattu, a slick bar and restaurant that serves modern Chinese cuisine. Fans of the group who may have been to their branches in Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh will find the same outstanding experience at the new London outpost.

With panoramic city views, Tattu is a stunning restaurant to dine in. It's inspired by the traditional Chinese Courtyard House, divided into four areas inspired by mythical creatures that surround a beautiful central indoor garden. The venue is full of character and made up of intimate booths, low lighting, and cherry blossom-inspired décor.

As for the menu, Tattu delivers one of the best and most sophisticated Chinese meals you'll find in London. Expect creative and fancy dim sum, like the Wagyu ribeye dumpling, which is the perfect way to start your meal. Another absolute must-order is the sticky beef short rib small plate – tender and melt-in-your-mouth chunks of short rib slathered in soy, chilli and crispy shallots.

The large plates are also designed for sharing and a bestseller is the wok-fired angry bird, the restaurant's take on sweet and sour chicken that is beautifully balanced. The sticky rice money bag makes an interesting side to the usual steamed rice and is generously peppered with Wagyu fillet, king oyster and tiger prawns.

As for dessert, they are just as innovatively presented and thought through as the rest of the menu. Chocoholics will love the Year of the Tiger, a sweet treat made especially for 2022 that features peanut butter fudge topped with honeycomb and marshmallow, wrapped in a tiger-printed chocolate case. All in all, a standout meal that will be both a feast for the eyes and the senses.

Dine alfresco at Bermondsey Larder

There’s been no better time to enjoy alfresco dining thanks to the recent beautiful weather we’ve been having, and for those looking for a spot in south east London, Bermondsey Larder ticks all the boxes. The restaurant, which has a quaint and intimate outdoor area, serves the most gorgeous British cuisine. It’s one of those places where you may not be familiar with all the ingredients on the menu, or only a couple of dishes jump out at you, but trust us, every platter we tried was sublime and beautifully presented - full of bright colours, fresh tastes and varying textures.

We recommend going for the tasting menu, which at £45 per person without the wine pairing is good value and will leave you truly satisfied. Standouts on the summer menu include the deliciously salty courgette flower with turbot cheek, the homemade warm potato sourdough perfect for dunking into the rosemary and sage oil, and for mains, the meaty and healthy pollock with green and white bean pistou. For dessert, a must-try and bestseller is the chocolate beans with brandy raisins and buttermilk ice cream. An absolute dream for chocoholics!

The menu is all about family-style mezes with plenty of seafood options. Try Saganaki to start - barrel-aged feta, wrapped in pastry, drenched in truffle honey, and topped with basil – or the Baked Ribbon Fish with citrus crumbs, pickled red onions and lemon.

Or how about Native Lobster Linguini with Dattorini tomatoes or perhaps the Octopus Stifado with deep-fried pita, shallots and red wine?

London's hottest A-list haunt, Laylow, has launched a brilliant new menu. The casual dining concept introduces an innovative, elegant yet fun menu that brings a slice of Mexican culture and spirit straight to the heart of London's Notting Hill. Dine alfresco in Chelsea's hidden terrace

There's nothing more we love than summer alfresco dining and The Roof Terrace at The Sloane is one of Chelsea's best-kept secrets. Just a stone's throw away from Sloane Square, the terrace of the four-star boutique hotel Sloane Place is an immaculate oasis where the well-heeled can enjoy cocktails and a beautiful (and very floral) setting to catch up with friends.

There is something for everyone on the eclectic, all-day dining menu which features burgers and steaks as well as bao buns and salads. We highly recommend the crispy duck spring rolls to start - you may want to order your own portion, they're that moreish. Follow it with the aromatic lemon grass chicken burger, a messy but delicious concoction of chicken, aioli, pineapple salsa, and spicy Asian slaw. The bao buns also come highly recommended if you have space to fit them in.

On Friday evenings, the roof terrace comes alive with the sound of live music. And if you're one to celebrate Midsummer, on 24 June actors will be performing scenes from A Midsummer Night's Dream while musicians will play folk music. A reduced snacks and drinks menu will be available throughout the performance.

Sea Containers launches surrealism inspired summer terrace

Sea Containers London has partnered with famed Champagne house Laurent-Perrier to launch the Sea Containers London Surrealism-inspired Summer Terrace. This year’s summer terrace takes inspiration from surrealist art - a 20th-century avant-garde movement in art which sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind, through creating irrational juxtaposition of images - to coincide with the landmark ‘Surrealism Beyond Borders’ exhibition at the Tate Modern. We’d highly recommend the exclusive The Son of Man cocktail - just wait until you see what it’s served in!

The family-run eatery, where the mum does all the cooking, serves up delicious mezze sharing platters of baba ghanoush, tahini, hummus, smoked aubergine and more, all accompanied by a stack of bread. The deep-fried Kurdish dumplings, which come in a meat or veggie option, are a definite must-order. As for mains, they are generous enough to go halves on. The juicy chicken kebab layered on pitta bread and served with a salad and yoghurt sauce was delicious.
