Sarah Michelle Gellar showed fans the work behind her strong physique in an Instagram video featuring a series of challenging gym exercises.
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress demonstrated her balance and control across several workout clips, wearing fitted leggings and sleeveless tops that highlighted her muscular arms.
Alongside the footage, Sarah explained that her motivation extended beyond her appearance.
"Not just about getting my body in shape, it's also about my mind," she wrote, thanking trainer @gauer_fitness.
Inside Sarah's workout
In one sequence, Sarah wore a black sleeveless top and burgundy leggings, with her blonde hair pulled through the back of a black baseball cap.
With her hands supported on a round balance trainer and her feet resting on a wheeled exercise board, she raised her hips into a pike position. White trainers completed her workout outfit.
Another clip showed the actress lying on a mat in a pale pink vest and black leggings, pulling against a yellow resistance band with her knees raised and shoulders lifted from the floor.
She also appeared in a loose pale tank top, dark leggings and an Alo cap while working with ropes in the mirrored gym.
The footage offered a glimpse of a varied routine, with movements requiring balance, upper-body strength and control.
Why she prioritises strength
Sarah has previously explained that her approach to exercise has evolved, with feeling physically capable becoming an important goal.
"I wanted to feel strong," she said in an April 2025 Q&A with MyFitnessPal, with which she had partnered.
She described wanting her workouts to support everyday life, including carrying shopping and keeping up with her family, rather than concentrating solely on how she looked.
Her recent caption also echoes a message she shared on Instagram in March 2025, when she posted footage of herself exercising with friends.
"It's true what they say … girlfriends and exercise are good for your mental health," she wrote at the time. That session included battle ropes, lunges, wall sits and weights.
The small changes she makes to her diet
Sarah has also discussed paying closer attention to protein as strength training became a bigger part of her routine.
"I don't do anything extreme," she explained in the MyFitnessPal Q&A. "I'm a busy mom, I need things that work in real life."
Her examples included adding Greek yoghurt or cottage cheese to smoothies, choosing eggs or protein-rich oats for breakfast, and keeping snacks such as roasted chickpeas or turkey roll-ups available.
Before training, she described eating something light, such as a banana with almond butter. Afterwards, a smoothie with protein powder, almond milk and berries was among her usual choices.
She also explained that planning meals helped her manage busy working weeks and avoid buying ingredients that would go unused.
A special milestone with Freddie Prinze Jr.
Away from the gym, Sarah recently celebrated 24 years of marriage to Freddie Prinze Jr., sharing throwback photographs to mark their September anniversary.
The couple married in 2002 and share two children, Charlotte and Rocky. Their relationship began after they met while working on I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Sarah also reunited with another familiar face last month, joining Buffy co-star David Boreanaz onstage at the Emmy Awards. The appearance brought the actors behind Buffy Summers and Angel back together, more than two decades after the original series ended.
