With Sharon Stone and Tom Cruise amongst its high profile holidaymakers, Croatia is quickly becoming one of the trendiest locales for summer star spotting.
This week, the two-time Oscar nominee John Malkovich could be seen chatting with friends in one of the narrow streets of Dubrovnik, just one of the hidden gems of the country, set on the Adriatic Sea.
The actor, whose family originated in the former Yugoslav republic, is a fairly common sight in the walled medieval city as he owns property nearby. Keen-eyed diners might even catch a glimpse of him at one of his favourite spots in the area, Restaurant Orsan in the village of Zaton Mali, about ten miles away, where Monegasque royal Caroline is also said to be a regular.
But the quirky film star doesn't limit his Croatian travel to the popular holiday city. He also makes an annual trip to the northwestern region of the country for the Pula Film Festival, where screenings are held in a 2,000-year-old Roman amphitheatre, the sixth largest in the world.
