Lady Gaga engaged: a closer look at her heart-shaped ring

February 17, 2015

When Lady Gaga announced to the world that she was engaged, the pop star did so by sharing a photo of her beautiful new ring on Instagram. The sparkler definitely caught everyone's attention, most of all for its exquisite shape.

Taylor Kinney, Lady Gaga's husband-to-be, knew that his bride would need a one-of-a-kind ring to match her extrovert personality, so naturally he picked out a more unique rock.

The result was an epic heart-shaped diamond ring, valued at no less than £500,000.

Lady Gaga posted a photo on Instagram of her heart-shaped diamond engagement ring

"Lady Gaga seems to have won over her loved one and has literally received his heart in return!" said fine diamond expert Lewis Malka. "Taking to Instagram, she showed the world her stunning ten carat, yes ten carat, heart-shaped diamond engagement ring. Set as a traditional solitaire ring, this really doesn't need any shoulder stones to enhance it.

"Whilst some heart-shaped diamonds can be cut poorly, the proportions on this one seem perfect, just like the couple in question! I would hope she has this insured for nothing less than half a million pounds."

The diamond expert also explained why heart-shaped rings aren't actually that popular among brides. "Finding the right shaped heart is not as easy as you may think," Lewis told HELLO! Online.

"Getting the proportions right from a rough to a polished diamond all depends on where the inclusions are – I believe the perfect heart shape is what Lady Gaga has here. In addition, you lose a lot of the diamond during the cutting process, for this reason not many are made in the first place."

The most popular, instead, tend to be traditional brilliant round cuts. "They always have been and probably always will be," added Lewis. "In regards to look, the fashionable halo style is super popular right now, however the traditional claw set solitaire ring remains a timeless classic for many."

Traditionally, a bride who wears a heart-shaped diamond ring like Lady Gaga is said to be emotional, romantic and thoughtful, and will see the delicately shaped ring as a very obvious symbol of true love.

Taylor Kinney and Lady Gaga celebrated their engagement at the singer's family restaurant in New York

Taylor popped the question to Lady Gaga on Valentine's Day, after which the couple celebrated with a romantic dinner at the singer's family restaurant, Joanne Trattoria, in New York. Her Instagram photo, captioned "He gave me his heart on Valentine's Day, and I said YES!", gained over 482,000 likes.

Lady Gaga, 28, and her actor fiancé Taylor, 33, first met on the set of her music video You & I in 2011, but they did not start dating until several months later. The pair briefly split in 2012 but were soon back together again.

Although they rarely make public appearances together, in a recent interview with radio DJ Howard Stern, Lady Gaga couldn't stop gushing about how perfect she thought Taylor was. "He is the right guy," she told Howard. "How do we know? It's this feeling..."
