David Beckham has proved he is far more than your average star after decisively beating both George Bush and Jesus in a poll of young British people's heroes.
Psychologists in the UK polled thousands of youngsters between the ages of 16 and 24 for the study. And the inimitable Becks triumphed over a host of movie and pop stars to take the top spot.
The footie ace was followed by Brad Pitt in second place and musical hunk Justin Timberlake in third. The remainder of the top ten was made up by Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Robbie Williams, Orlando Bloom, Britney Spears, Keanu Reeves and Angelina Jolie.
But it was a disappointing result for political leaders, with Tony Blair limping home in 69th place, and US president George Bush close to the bottom at number 123. Despite the England skipper's amazing success, the survey's organiser seems a little disappointed with the findings. "Although people could have voted for great political thinkers or artists, their top ten comprised Hollywood stars, pop musicians and a footballer," said Dr Adrian North. "They went for people with nothing much to say but who look good."
