With husband David and eldest son Brooklyn sitting front row alongside Anna Wintour, Victoria Beckham unveiled her SS15 collection at New York Fashion Week on Sunday. The style icon, who has successfully managed to elevate a celebrity label into high-fashion territory, further cemented her status as a top tier fashion designer with a sleek, understated collection destined for commercial success.
Victoria's signature dresses have evolved from figure-hugging into more relaxed silhouettes with structure found in the details –high-waisted belts and oversized pockets. A classic monochrome palette — black and white stripes featured heavily — was broken up with bolts of oxblood red and safari taupe and Victoria had even showcased florals for the first time in shades of pink.
The show marked the first time that Victoria has included shoes as part of her brand. However, the fashionista crowd were shocked to discover that the footwear was not made up of sky-high stilettos - Victoria is known for her love of heels – but mostly flat shoes.
The shoes embraced the current trend for a more masculine style and the few heels that featured boasted a bulky platform. Talking about her collection backstage, Victoria said, "My starting point was the idea of a uniform. "I wanted something minimal and graphic with a slightly raw element. Over the seasons I've loosened up the fit of my clothes – but they still make you look long and lean, they're still wearable," she added.
