The iconic handbag currently holds the world record for highest price paid for a bag, when a bidder paid £125,000 for a red version of the Birkin at an auction in 2011. However, the new Matte Himalayan Nilo Crocodile Birkin is expected to break the world record when it goes for auction at Heritage Auctions in Beverley Hills this month. Made from crocodile skin, the stunning andluxurious bag features 18-carat white gold clasps, as well as 145 diamond studs. "A 30cm Diamond Himalayan Birkin is possibly the rarest and most desirable handbag in the world," says Kathleen Guzman, the managing director of the auction house. "This bag is so rare and sought-after that there's a very good chance it could meet or exceed the world record price we saw three years ago." "This is the only time that a bag of this calibre has appeared on the luxury re-sale market," she added. "This is a dream piece for the collection of true Hermès aficionados."
