Pop princess Ariana Grande surprised fans when she stepped out at the MTV EMA awards with her hair completely down. The singer had eschewed her signature half-up, half-down ponytail – that she is rarely seen without – in favour of letting her long brunette locks flow loose. But the singer admitted that she felt "naked" without her trademark hairstyle.
Ariana Grande let her hair down, literally, for the awards ceremony
"My hair's down and I feel so naked like that," she told the Daily Mail on the red carpet. Ariana was responsible for opening the awards ceremony at the Hydro Arena in Glasgow. The 21-year-old stepped on to the stage to sing her hit song Problem followed by Break Free, wearing a silver peplum leotard.

Shortly after performing, the star took to the stage to pick up the Best Song award from host Nicki Minaj. Another highlight of the evening was the rap star host's eight outfit changes. Nicki made her arrival wearing a grey ruffled dress boasting a 14-foot train that cascaded beneath her. She then changed into a series of typically showstopping outfits, including a red dress, a pink dress and a brown dress.
