David Beckham to follow in wife Victoria's footsteps and launch fashion label

December 4, 2014

David Beckham is following in the footsteps of wife Victoria and launching his own fashion line. The 39-year-old has signed a deal with Global Brands to create his label, alongside business partner Simon Fuller who also advised Victoria when she launched her eponymous line in 2008. "Her business is separate from this," said David about Victoria's involvement in the decision. "But obviously she's part of this too, because we're partners. We're husband and wife. She's excited about this."

It's not the first time that the footballing star has tried his hand at fashion – he has already collaborated with brands including Adidas and H&M, as well as creating a capsule collection for menswear brand Belstaff earlier this year. "Throughout my career I've had quite a few sponsorship deals, but this takes it to a different level, a different area," added David. "I've gone from being in a sponsorship deal to now becoming an owner." Global Brands, who also work with brands including Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, revealed to WWD that it was David's 'star power and status as one of the world's most famous sports and style icons', teamed with Simon's 'deep understanding of consumers, talent, and sports and entertainment rights' which led them to go ahead with the deal.

It could be that David was inspired to start his own line after seeing the success of wife Victoria's. The father-of-four had previously spoken about his admiration for her business acumen and hard work. "She's won the respect of the fashion industry and many other people as well," said David, who repeatedly supports his wife and is always spotted on the front row at her Fashion Week catwalk show.
