March 30, 2015

The clocks have gone forward and spring has finally sprung which can only mean one thing – Royal Ascot is almost upon us. Every year the stylish event, which takes place over a few days, sees race-goers donning their most glamorous and elegant outfits. However, the notoriously formal dress code can be somewhat daunting if it's your first time at the iconic race course. Luckily for fashionistas, Ascot have released their handy style guide for 2015 which lists the dos and don'ts regarding what to wear for the glamorous day out, whether you're in the Royal Enclosure or Grandstand. To celebrate, Ascot Racecourse and British retailer Fenwick, hosted a fashion show to celebrate the launch of women’s looks featured in this year’s Royal Ascot Style Guide.

The Royal Ascot 2015 style guide has been revealed

Royal Enclosure style guide: Dresses and skirts should be of modest length One of the golden rules at Royal Ascot is the length of skirts. A dress or skirt is considered modest if it falls just above the knee, or is a bit longer. Dresses and tops should have straps of one inch Dresses which are strapless or off the shoulder are not permitted at Royal Ascot. Halter necks and spaghetti straps are also banned, so avoid a fashion faux pas and ensure your straps are at least one inch wide.

Jackets and pashminas may be worn Although Royal Ascot takes place in June, the British weather has been prone to let us down in past years with slightly grey clouds and chilly winds, a nightmare for those in formalwear. Luckily, jackets and pashminas are permitted should you need some protection from the weather. Hats should be worn Royal Ascot is renowned for its strict regulations regarding hats - headpieces must have a base of 4 inches (10cm) or more in diameter. Gentlemen must wear black or grey Men are required to wear black or grey morning dress. Top hats should also be black or grey, and shoes must be black.
