Gisele Bundchen ends runway career with emotional show

April 16, 2015

It was an emotional end to Gisele Bundchen's hugely successful runway career. The supermodel was teary-eyed as she walked the catwalk for the final time in her home country of Brazil. Her parents and husband Tom Brady looked on as Gisele opened and closed the show for Brazilian brand Colcci as part of Sao Paulo Fashion Week – the same place where she made her runway debut 20 years ago.

Gisele's last turn on the catwalk was emotional

Joined by a group of men and women on stage wearing white t-shirts emblazoned with her face, Gisele, 34, shed a tear as she was given a standing ovation. After the show, husband Tom, 37, took to Facebook to pay a touching tribute to his wife of five years. "Congratulations Love of my Life, you inspire me every day to be a better person," he wrote.

The star said goodbye to the catwalk in her home country, Brazil

"I am so proud of you and everything you have accomplished on the runway. I have never met someone with more of a will to succeed and determination to overcome any obstacle in the way. "You never cease to amaze me. Nobody loves life more than you and your beauty runs much deeper than what the eye can see. I can't wait to see what's next. I love you. #GOAT #thebestisyettocome."

The supermodel looked stunning as she stormed the runway

Before hitting the runway, Gisele, who is the world's highest-paid model, posted a backstage photo on Instagram. "Almost ready," she captioned the snap, which showed her sipping from a coconut. The Brazilian beauty announced that she was retiring from runway modelling last month, saying she wanted to spend more time with husband New England Patriots quarterback Brady, and their two children, Benjamin and Vivian. She also told Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo: "My body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked to stop. I respect my body, it's a privilege to be able to stop."
