Kate 'calm' during last-minute shopping trip

April 25, 2015

The Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, indulged in a spot of retail therapy this week. Kate, who is due to welcome her second child any day now, was spotted at her local brand of Zara Home on Kensington High Street on Monday buying some goods for her home and son Prince George.

"She looked so calm," the shop assistant who served Kate told People magazine. "You couldn't really tell that she was pregnant because she looked so great; I mean, she was wearing heels.

"She was so nice and polite, I was really impressed."

The Duchess (pictured in October 2013) was "so calm" according to a shop assistant

According to the American publication mum-to-be Kate was dressed casually in jeans, a blue and white top and high-heeled wedges. In spite of her low-key look, however, the Duchess attracted some attention from her fellow shoppers. "Because she had quite a few little items that needed wrapping, she was at the till for a while," said the shop assistant. "You could see shoppers just staring, pale-faced; they couldn't believe their eyes.

"She didn't say anything or react," they added. "She was so sweet and polite." On the Duchess's shopping list were a selection of home furnishing accessories and some items thought to be for one-year-old George.

Kate's outfit was similar to the one she wore for a SportsAid engagement in 2013

People reports that the 33-year-old bought a doormat and some dark blue bath towels. "She was really interested in the blue sailor-themed display where she got the towels from before she went down to kidswear," said a member of staff.

The Duchess then purchased some padded blue and white gingham hangers, some picnic cutlery and tumblers with polka dots.

"She likes blue definitely!" a Zara worker told People. "Everything she seemed to look at was blue but not for babies – she must just like the colour."

While Kate was busy stocking up on home items, the Daily Mail reports that earlier in the week Prince William purchased some clothes at nearby department store Peter Jones.

The Duke, who is now on paternity leave, is said to have bought a selection of jeans and jumpers.
