Kate Moss opens up about career in rare candid interview

May 28, 2015

Kate Moss is arguably one of the most recognisable faces in the world and an enduring fashion icon - and her Calvin Klein 1993 Obsession for Men campaign is often credited for being the turning point which catapulted her to global fame. The 41-year-old has spoken candidly about the milestone moment in her career in a rare interview, with renowned photographer Nick Knight.

The blonde beauty admitted that it was then-boyfriend Mario Sorrenti's photographs of her which helped to put her on Calvin's radar, as well as inspiring the theme of the campaign.

"Calvin saw Mario's book and it was all pictures of me on holiday and stuff. He was like, 'Right, I can see it, it's an obsession'," she revealed.

"He was obsessed," she continued, speaking about Mario. "I would wake up in the morning and he would take pictures of me."

The Croydon-born star also opened up about her subsequent move to New York as her career took off and she found herself increasingly in demand.

"New York is, I think a really hardcore place," she mused. Revealing that companies started sending her stretch limos to take her to photoshoots, Kate admitted that she found it "embarrassing". "I'd be in trainers and a ripped Margiela skirt, I was grunge," she laughed, speaking about how she felt she didn't always fit in.

However, the British beauty quickly settled in and soon was surrounded by supermodel friends, admitting that Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington helped her adjust to her newfound fame. "Naomi and Christy took me under their wing," she said.

Since then, Kate has covered major fashion magazines, landed the most coveted designer campaigns and stormed the runway at all the Fashion Weeks. However, that isn't to say that the model is now used to seeing her face everywhere.

"Still sometimes I'm like, 'Ooh, there's me!'" she said. "You have to be a bit grounded about things like that."
