Eddie Redmayne is OMEGA's new brand ambassador

Hollywood heart-throb Eddie Redmayne may have conquered the world of acting with his critically-acclaimed performances, but the 33-year-old seems to have turned his attention to the world of fashion. The British star has been named as the new brand ambassador for luxury watchmakers OMEGA.

"I have worn OMEGA for a number of years, so to be made an official ambassador for the brand on a global level is very exciting," Eddie said in a statement. "To join a brand whose own credentials include the only watch to be officially certified by NASA, and the official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games is an honour."

Eddie, who took home the Oscar earlier this year The Theory of Everything, joins an impressive line-up of previous ambassadors including George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Cindy Crawford and Rory McIlroy.

"We are absolutely delighted to welcome Eddie to the OMEGA family," said Stephen Urquhart, the label's president. "He brings true elegance and integrity, and is incredibly humble about his success- something that sits perfectly with the OMEGA spirit. We very much look forward to working together."

The My Week with Marilyn star is no stranger to the world of modelling – in 2011 he caused a stir in the industry when he smouldered in a campaign for Burberry alongside supermodel Cara Delevingne.

It's been a whirlwind few months for Eddie, in both his professional and personal life. As well as winning the Oscar, his portrayal of Stephen Hawking saw him take home the Golden Globe, SAG and BAFTA awards for Best Actor. Since then, he has been busy working on upcoming film The Danish Girl.

Meanwhile his life away from the camera has also seen him celebrate an exciting milestone in his personal life – the actor tied the knot with PR Executive Hannah Bagshawe after a two-year courtship.

"I love married life!" he declared at the winners' press conference backstage at the BAFTAs earlier this year.
