Givenchy show to move from Paris Fashion Week to New York

June 29, 2015

Givenchy's creative director Riccardo Tisci has caused a stir in the industry after revealing that the label will showcase its Spring/Summer 2016 collection in New York. The Givenchy presentation has always been a firm fixture on the Paris Fashion Week calendar, so the new location marks a significant change for the brand.

Fashionistas have not been completely surprised by the news – Givenchy have just opened a new store on Madison Avenue, one of the Big Apple's biggest fashion hotspots. Taking place on 11 September, the presentation will no doubt have a front row filled with A-listers including Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian, with whom Riccardo shares a close relationship.

"It's a very delicate day for America and so the show is going to be a celebration of family and love," he said. "It gives me so much energy, and I'm very inspired by the culture. I feel free when I'm there."

It's been a particularly hectic week for Riccardo, who unveiled his new menswear collection for Givenchy on Friday. Supermodels including Naomi Campbell, Kendall Jenner, Candice Swanepoel and Irina Shayk all stormed the runway at the show in Paris, rocking everything from oversized striped blazers to denim dungarees.

Last week also saw the label making waves when its Autumn/Winter 2015 campaign was unveiled, starring Donatella Versace. The designer shared a photo of her new images on Instagram, explaining in the caption why she had decided to champion a fellow designer.

"I believe in breaking rules," she wrote. "Riccardo Tisci is extremely talented and above all my dear friend. We are family. I want to get rid of the old system, work together, support each other and make fashion a true global community."

"I approached my friend Donatella because she represents what a Fashion Icon is to me," added Ricardo in a statement. "We thought it was time to break boundaries and give a strong message about how to think Fashion."
