Herve Leger's UK managing director Patrick Couderc has been axed from the brand following controversial comments he made regarding wearers of the label's iconic bandage dresses. Patrick shocked fashionistas when he stated that "voluptuous women" and "committed lesbians" should not wear the figure-hugging dresses.

The former employee of the UK office told the Mail on Sunday over the weekend that "voluptuous women and those with very prominent hips and a very flat chest" should not wear the label's signature gowns.

"If you're a committed lesbian and you are wearing trousers all your life, you won't buy a Herve Leger dress," he added. "Lesbians would want to be rather butch and leisurely."

The controversial comments sparked outrage on social media, with many condemning the statements and calling for Herve Leger to react.

A representative of the brand confirmed that Patrick "is no longer associated with the company" to Vogue on Tuesday.

The French fashion house initially released a statement stating that they were "shocked and appalled by Patrick Couderc's comments", following the publication of the interview.

"The Herve Leger by Max Azria brand and its parent company, BCBGMAXAZRIA Group, are shocked and appalled by Patrick Couderc's comments made in The Mail on Sunday. BCBGMAXAZRIA Group is working in concert with MJH Fashion, to investigate and establish appropriate next steps.

"The statements made by Mr. Couderc are not a reflection of Herve Leger by Max Azria or MJH Fashion ideals or sentiments. The Herve Leger by Max Azria brand celebrates sensuality, glamour and femininity without discrimination."

The label's signature bandage dresses, first created in the 1980s, have become a staple in the wardrobes of the some of the world's most glamorous women including Kim Kardashian, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Eva Longoria.
