Sir Elton John has ended his feud with Italian designers Dolce and Gabbana. The 68-year-old singer revealed that "the slate is clean" following the pair's apology for their comments about children born through IVF.

Elton shared the news with his 192,000 Instagram followers, posting an image of the Italian fashion house's iconic logo and announcing the end of his boycott of the brand.

"Big thanks to Stefano and Domenico for the apology over their comments about IVF children. We have always been big fans of their work," he captioned the picture. "Now that the slate is clean we look forward wearing their designs once again. We love Italy! #ShareTheLove."

The argument first began when Elton was angered by the designers' comments on same-sex families and the use of fertility treatment.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana – who were a couple for 23 years before breaking up in 2005 – caused controversy with comments made in a recent interview with Italy’s Panorama magazine. "We oppose gay adoptions," they stated. "The only family is the traditional one. No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed."

Domenico Dolce's comments that children born through IVF were 'synthetic' angered Elton

Domenico said that procreation "must be an act of love", saying, "You are born to a mother and a father – at least that's how it should be. I call children of chemistry, synthetic children."

Stefano added, "The family is not a fad. In it there is a supernatural sense of belonging."

The comments clearly angered Sir Elton, who has two adorable sons with husband David Furnish called Zachary and Elijah, both born through IVF.

Sir Elton firmly rebuked their views in an Instagram post, where he shared a photo of the designers. "How dare you refer to my beautiful children as 'synthetic'," he wrote. "And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both gay and straight, to fulfil their dreams of having children.

"Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just likes your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana."
