Emily Ratajkowksi is best known for her modelling career, but also made waves when she starred in 2014 thriller film Gone Girl opposite Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. Now, the 24-year-old has opened up about her struggles as she makes the transition from model to actress.

Emily Ratajkowski has opened up about her Hollywood career

"Definitely there's a lot of pigeon-holing with actresses that goes on in general," she told Fashionista. "I think coming from the modelling world that's only more so true for me."

Emily, who also starred opposite Zac Efron in this year's comedy We Are Your Friends, revealed that there are a lot of "stereotypes that surround models", but that she was determined to prove herself in the industry.

"There's, of course, always stereotypes that surround models," she explained. "And I think Hollywood is used to having a one-liner on many actresses, 'Oh she's really good at a comedy or she’s really good for whatever'.

"Coming from modelling, and with so many images of us being really super glammed up, I think that impacts the way that people want to cast us. It just takes a matter of time and proving yourself."

Cara Delevingne has also moved from the world of modelling to acting

Emily isn't the only model making the move from fashion to film. British beauty Cara Delevingne caused a stir earlier this year when she revealed that she would be taking a break from modelling to focus on her acting career.

"I am not doing fashion work anymore," she said in a candid new interview with The Times in August.

"Modelling just made me feel a bit hollow after a while. It didn't make me grow at all as a human being. And I kind of forgot how young I was… I felt so old."

There's no doubt that Cara's Hollywood career has been going from strength to strength. Not only was she the leading lady in the film adaptation of John Green's novel Paper Towns earlier this year, but her next role will see her starring in upcoming superhero flick Suicide Squad, as part of an all-star cast including Will Smith and Margot Robbie.
