Victoria Beckham came under fire for casting thin models in her New York Fashion Show in September. But the designer has defended her casting decisions, insisting that their low weight "doesn't mean they're ill"."Our casting director spoke to the [model] agencies, and we know that all our girls are healthy," the 41-year-old told The Telegraph."They're young, they're thin, but that doesn't mean they're ill. People are mean on social media, whoever you are. It's a shame people have to be that way."
The focus of the criticism was on a 17-year-old model named Peyton Knight. The teenager was the subject of cruel comments on Instagram after closing the show for Victoria. Addressing the subject, Victoria said: "I wasn't the only show she did, I wasn't the only designer to use her."
The criticism aside, Victoria is enjoying a very successful year. She recently won an award for her fashion brand, which was presented to her by her son Brooklyn. The handsome 16-year-old embraced his mother as he gave her the Fashion Force prize at the Glamour awards. "I'm so proud of it, and I'm so happy to be here tonight," said Brooklyn, reports Variety magazine. "I love you!" Victoria, resplendent in a red form-fitting gown from her own label, looked delighted to be receiving the accolade, making a heartfelt speech that paid tribute to her husband David." Running a business, my work with UNAIDs and most importantly being a mum wouldn't be possible without David," she said. "Not only is he the most incredible father, but he is supportive and someone who loves and inspires me every single day." She added, "Me standing here tonight accepting this award proves that if you dream big and you work hard, there are no limits to what you can achieve."
