A new Barbie commercial that features a young boy playing with the doll is receiving praise for challenging gender barriers.The ad showcases the new Moschino Barbie, which the adorable little boy with a Mohawk and two young girls are seen marveling at during the clip. "Moschino Barbie is so fierce!" he says to the camera as he holds Barbie's purse.
It is the first time a boy has featured in a Barbie advert and people have taken to social media to praise Mattel, the manufacturer behind the toy.One user on Youtube wrote: "First BOY in Barbie commercial YES, YES, and YES!!! 21st century – FINALLY! And he is so cute! LOVE this commercial"
Another said: "I used to play with my sister's Barbies and felt such shame afterward. I'm so glad we can just let kids be kids. Thank you for this. Boys like dolls too. "The limited edition Barbie is dressed head-to-toe in Moschino, wearing a leather jacket and a leather pencil skirt.
The hotly anticipated Moschino Barbie launched earlier this month and sold out in less than an hour.
Jeremy Scott, creative director ofMoschino, shared the news on his Instagram account, writing: "MoschinoBarbie sold out in less than an hour! Wow! Barbie and I thank u for all the love!"The doll, sold on Net-a-porter.com, retailed for $150, and was part of an eight-piece collection Scott designed for the iconic Mattel toy, which heavily inspired his spring collection.
