First Lady Melania Trump looked stunning in an off-the-shoulder Hervé Pierre gown at the inaugural ball on Friday night, and the designer has spoken about collaborating with her to create the memorable dress.
In a statement, Hervé wrote: "It's an honour to dress the First Lady. I was actually lucky because over my 20 years in the U.S., I dressed all the first ladies: Mrs. Clinton at Oscar [de la Renta], Mrs. Bush and Mrs. Obama at Carolina Herrera. So I feel lucky and honoured to dress Melania Trump, but this time under my name." The designer, who was the creative director at Carolina Herrera before leaving last year, revealed that Melania has a specific sense of style and "doesn't plan to change it because of her new function".
Hervé spoke about designing the gown
He said: "It was fun to respect her very tailored sense of fashion and to translate it in a gown. The lines are sharp, the design has no fuss and reflects Mrs. Trump's vision of fashion and the way she feels in a gown. She knows what she likes. Our conversations were, and are, very easy. She knows about fashion, as a former model. She is aware about constructions, so we have already the same vocabulary when it comes to designing a dress."
Donald and Melania danced to My Way by Frank Sinatra
The former model wore the gown during her first dance with husband Donald Trump's as the new first couple of the United States. Before taking to the dance floor, the new President thanked his wife for her support, telling the audience: "My number one supporter, Melania. What she puts up with, thank you, honey." They then began dancing to My Way by Frank Sinatra, and were joined on stage by Donald's eldest children, Donald Jr, Eric, Ivanka and Tiffany and their partners. Ivanka dazzled in a Carolina Herrera number while Tiffany wore lilac strapless gown by Simin Couture.
