Find out why Nicole Kidman altered her Armani Privé dress during the Oscars

February 28, 2017

Nicole Kidman looked breathtaking as she arrived at the 89th Academy Awards in a nude embellished Armani Privé gown on Sunday night. However the Lion actress was forced to alter the designer dress once inside the ceremony after the cross-strap detail on the back appeared to bring her out in a rash.

The gown, from Armani Privé's spring-summer collection, originally featured a racer back shape with beaded fabric crossing Nicole's shoulders. Photos from Nicole's red carpet arrival showed that her skin looked a little red around the gown's beaded neckline. However photos of Nicole later on in the night show the dress tied into a halterneck with the straps hanging down her back, suggesting that her stylist had to take a pair of scissors to the design in a bid to loosen it and prevent further irritation to the star's skin.

The best supporting actress nominee looked stunning nonetheless, with her hair tied up into an intricate chignon and dazzling Harry Winston earrings to complement her embellished dress. Her stylist Julia von Boehm had previously praised Nicole for her fearless approach to fashion in an interview with the New York Times earlier this month.

"She's not going the safe road. When I see the shows, I think of them with two brains: my editorial brain and the Nicole brain. Sometimes they are one and the same," Julia said, adding that Nicole is so slim she typically fits into catwalk sample sizes. "We don't need to create a replica for her – she even fits into couture – which means I don't have to limit myself to just the celebrity pieces a designer offers. We can also be very much on point, and on time, with what's happening in fashion."
