Emma Watson confirmed her commitment to sustainable fashion recently by announcing that she would dress entirely in eco-conscious pieces for her long-awaited Beauty and The Beast press tour. Each dazzling red carpet ensemble Emma wore was validated by environmentally conscious brand consultancy Eco-Age to ensure it met the strict carbon-neutral standards.

The actress and UN Women Goodwill Ambassador also decided to take it a step further and launched a brand spanking new Instagram account - @the_press_tour - to chronicle every element of her eco-conscious looks, from a Louis Vuitton number crafted out of plastic bottles to a grey custom Emilia Wickstead gown. Speaking to The Coveteur a couple of weeks ago, Emma named Base Range, Chinti and Parker and Aiayu as her go-to labels for beautiful, fashion-forward pieces with a conscience.

It’s safe to say that Emma’s sustainability initiative has caused something of a stir. So much so that fellow actress Anne Hathaway has opted to wear nothing but eco-friendly styles during her press tour for sci-fi comedy film Colossal. Anne’s stylist, Penny Lovell, announced on Tuesday that the Brooklyn-born actress will be taking to the red carpet in full-on sustainable pieces for the entirety of the publicity blitz.

Anne started as she meant to go on, stepping out in a back-baring vintage Armani Prive number for the film’s glittering premiere in New York. It’s not the first time the 34-year-old actress has taken a stand for the environment – when she married Adam Shulman in 2012, she was keen for the wedding itself to be as green as possible, serving vegan dishes created with delicious yet sustainable foods sourced from local producers.

In a world where somewhat trivial goings-on repeatedly overshadow major environmental issues, it’s refreshing to see that stars such as Emma and Anne setting such a great precedent: sussing out a way to do good while looking mega-watt marvellous at the same time. And though, there’s much progress to be made, we are looking forward to embracing the eco-friendly initiative and incorporating sustainable yet stylish pieces into our own wardrobes.
