Candice Swanepoel has launched a sustainable shoe collection

April 26, 2017

Candice Swanepoel has collaborated with Mara & Mine on a "simple and ethical" range of shoes. The South African model has posed for countless brands since breaking out into the industry aged 15, with stints for Victoria's Secret, Fendi, Givenchy and Stella McCartney all under her belt.

Style meets sustainability: Candice has launched a new, ethical shoe edit with Mara & Mine

She's now dipped her toes into the design business, having teamed up with Australian designers Jasmine Yarbrough and Tamie Ingham to create four types of sandals as part of their label Mara & Mine, which the duo launched five years ago. "The inspiration came from my love of the summer months, travel and my bohemian and minimalist style," Candice smiled to Footwear News. "I wanted to create a summer collection that is flattering, simple and ethical, to show people that vegan accessories can be just as beautiful and luxurious as leather accessories."

Sustainable handbag and accessories company Bottletop also played a part in her decision to shun leather, as Candice, 28, questioned why more brands weren't following suit. The blonde beauty first came across Mara & Mine when the label was brought to her attention by a friend, then she met the designers and they immediately bonded over their fashion ethics.

The South African beauty recently took to Instagram to post about World Earth Day

Keeping busy with the collaboration proved to be the perfect project for Candice to work on following the arrival of her son Anaca last October. "We discussed both of our aesthetics in that first meeting in New York, then brainstormed a few different ideas and had a personal Pinterest board that we each added to," Tamie recalled. "We got this overall bohemian vibe from Candice, and certain styles she liked and doorways. And when she was visiting L.A., she came to our office, and we put all our collective images together and started sketching out ideas."

Prices range from $210 (£164) to $285 (£223), with a percentage of sales going to well-deserving charity Mothers2Mothers. Shop the collection at maraandmine.com
