Kate Bosworth is so in awe of fashion designer Tory Burch that she writes her love letters. The Still Alice actress turned to her close pal to dress her for Monday night's 2017 Met Gala (01May17) and together they came up with a black short sleeved gown boasting 3D embellishments and an accompanying shrug. It took months to perfect the finished piece but there was no one else Kate wanted to work with for the special occasion.

“I have so much admiration for Tory and everything she's done,” the 34-year-old star gushed to WWD. “The focus that she has and discipline, and also the warmth and groundedness – it's everything that I related to and want to learn from. “I send her love letters. I'm, like, 'Don't think I'm stalking you!'”
Tory returned the compliment by noting she only collaborates with people she truly admires and the designer took on board every suggestion Kate made. To cater to the theme for year's event, which honoured Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo, the film star created a mood board to send to Tory and her team and she describes the overall creative process as “very organic”.

“I thought that the idea of black for this was appropriate because (Kawakubo) uses so much black and it felt very Comme des Garcons,” Kate said of the designer's label. “Tory and I talked a lot about the idea of the dots (another Kawakubo staple), which I'm sure will be represented across the board at the Met... But to not take it so literally. I thought that Tory had such a great idea of bringing the dots in as an almost architectural sphere.”
A lot of focus was given to creating structure within the gown, with billowing short sleeves and a skirt boasting poofy spheres towards the bottom adding volume.
