Ulrikke Hoyer, a 20-year-old Danish model arrived in Kyoto, Tokyo after being cast in Louis Vuitton’s cruise show, only to be told she was told she was “too big” to walk, despite being a slim UK size 8. Taking to Facebook on Thursday to post about her unfortunate experience, she revealed that she had been sent home after being told that she had a “very bloated stomach” and a “bloated face.” After an initial casting in Paris, where there she was confirmed for the show, Ulrikke wrote in her post that she was “happy” that she had been casted “even though I wasn’t in my skinniest ‘show-shape’.”

However, when she arrived in Japan, problems soon arose, with her agent calling her to tell her that the show’s casting agent wasn’t satisfied with her size, and that she should “drink only water for the next 24 hours.” Shockingly, the 20-year-old went on to say that after going to bed “extremely hungry,” the following morning, the agent then checked up on her at breakfast time to see if she had been eating any food.
Later that day, Ulrikke’s fears were confirmed, when she was dropped from the show altogether and told to fly back home to Denmark. “What should have been a truly amazing and unique experience ended up being a very humiliating experience,” she wrote, revealing that when her mum shadowed on a castin previous casting, she was shocked to see that “almost everyone [has] a completely distorted relationship with food.”

Ulrikke was keen to stress that her post “was not about me being cancelled from a show - you win some and you loose some that’s the game.” Rather, it was to raise awareness of what is considered the “normality” in the industry. Luckily, the experience hasn’t damaged her confidence. "I am glad I am 20 and not a 15 year-old-girl who is new to this and unsure about herself."
