Olivier Rousteing thrilled to dress France's First Lady Brigitte Macron

The designer revealed he's got a real buzz from putting garments together for the wife of President Emmanuel Macron

Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing is very excited to supply garments for France's First Lady. The designer has been creative director at the French fashion house since 2011, and has built up a strong list of regular celebrity clients, such as Kim Kardashian, Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez.

While Rousteing is honoured to outfit many celebrities, he revealed he's got a real buzz from putting garments together for Brigitte Macron, the wife of President Emmanuel Macron, who is known for her classic ensembles and preference for French brands.

Olivier Rousteing spoke about dressing France's First Lady

"You see the First Lady and you have the chance to dress her - it's a big achievement, not only as a designer but as a French citizen," he told Glamour.com. "What I love about my First Lady is she is so different and diverse from all the (other) Balmain Army girls. It shows how (the brand) is about diversity. When she started asking me for clothes, I was really, really proud."

Rousteing has no qualms about associating himself with the Macrons, and unlike some fashion designers, such as Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford and Sophie Theallet, he is open to supplying clothes to Melania Trump, the wife of U.S. President Donald Trump.

While some designers refuse to dress Melania on account of President Trump's controversial policies, the Bordeaux-raised fashion star isn't interested in getting involved in political issues.

"I think fashion is fashion: Sometimes you dress people that you don't know, and sometimes you dress people that you actually know. Melania is an incredible, beautiful woman, but I don't know her, and I'm not American, so I (don't feel that) I can talk about it," he said.

As well as dressing a range of Hollywood and high-profile figures, Rousteing recently also crafted a collection for the Opera Garnier. However, when it comes to his muses, the late Michael Jackson remains a constant influence in his creative processes.

"He's timeless to me," the 31-year-old shared. "I'm obsessed with the fact that he went so political. He became a legend, and today I think he's still the King of Pop."
