Stella McCartney ensures Edward Enninful feels home at Vogue with amazing welcome gift

Edward began his first day as Vogue's new editor-in-chief on Tuesday

US Managing Editor

Edward Enninful stepped into Vogue House on Tuesday to begin his first day as editor-in-chief at the fashion bible, and was welcomed by a very thoughtful gift from Stella McCartney. The 45-year-old, who makes history as the first male editor of the magazine, turned up to find five large helium letter balloons, spelling out the word Vogue – naturally. Looking cool in an all-black outfit and trendy glasses, Edward posed in front of the balloons, looking just the part. Posting the picture on his Twitter page, he wrote: "Day One!! Thank you @stellamccartney for the Major balloons xoxo."

Since his arrival this week, Edward has wasted no time in making his mark. On the day of his arrival, he launched Vogue onto popular social media app, Snapchat. The Snapchat Discover will now post fashion, beauty and culture content three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

In a short video to promote the new launch on Vogue's Instagram account, Edward chatted in the back of a black taxi as he made his way to work. "Vogue to me represents the best of the best," he said. He also revealed his secret talent: "I'm a very good singer but no – I'm not going to sing," he laughed. His dog, Rue, was also with him on the journey, who he claimed was his "most prized possession."

Alexandra Shulman left Vogue on Monday following 25 years of service

Edward was appointed the editor of British Vogue back in April, replacing Alexandra Shulman, who was at the helm of the magazine since 1992. Jonathan Newhouse, Conde Nast International chairman and chief executive, stated that Edward, who has previously worked for both Italian and American Vogue, is "supremely prepared to assume the responsibility".

Alexandra, meanwhile, poignantly shared her very last Editor's letter on her Instagram account after her departure. Writing besides the piece, titled: "Wonder Years," she wrote: "My final Editor's letter published today. A look back over 25 years and thanks to everyone who made this September issue possible - the whole team @britishvogue and welcome to the new man in the chair @edward_enninful who started yesterday."
