London Fashion Week for spring/summer 2018 kicked off Friday morning with on-schedule newcomer Richard Malone. Fresh from Fashion East, the Irish designer proved that London is where it's at for new season pieces that make an impact. Silhouettes were kept simple, with to-die-for oversized coats and ankle grazing skirts in an uber cool cobalt blue colour palette. This bright young star is definitely one to watch.

Nick Cave, Bobby Gillespie and his uber stylist wife Katy England made up a rock ’n’ roll front row, plus celebrity fans Jaime Winstone, supporting her little sister Ellie-Rae who was walking. Alice Dellal opened the show to ‘Teddy’s Bear Picnic’ in netted sheer ruffles and we knew this was the legend Pam Hogg at her finest.

What followed was a formula that has kept the designer in the fashion eye for well over 30 years: sculpted bodysuits, PVC coated lace trenches and barely-there leotards. The theme was innocence - the show was anything but; pompadour masks, exposed breasts and bags of attitude.

Shrimps

The Shrimps presentation stayed true to fashion designer Hannah Weiland's eclectic combination of playful prints and textures. This time there was inspiration from Greek philosophy and artists Faye Wei Wei and Mary Fedden, which added a touch of ethereal magic.

With colours mimicking the swirls of Venetian Murano glass and bright lime greens, the effect was a fresh, mythical and fun collection that, as always with Shrimps, makes us desperate to wear it.

Inspired by eleven-time gold Paralympic dressage medallist Natasha Baker, known as the horse-whisperer, the design duo showcased diversity through an exploration of the human form. Embodying Natasha's feminine and bright personality, the SS18 collection featured romantic spring colours, soft tailoring and weightless fabrics.

It celebrated individuality in body shapes by featuring volumes and lengths for every shape and need. This was fashion, made all the more real by a video of Natasha narrating her own incredible story during the show.

Set in St. Sepulchre's church in the heart of the capital with church pews as a FROW and sugared almonds on every seat, the "congregation" was given a strong hint of what was to come. Wedding white was interspersed with funeral gothic black as models stomped down the aisle in Dr. Martins to the sound of classical music.

An homage to Princess Diana was evident in the Victoriana lace dresses and pussy bow blouses while Stephen Jones provided the headgear, inspired by Eton and Harrow school uniforms. So it seemed only fitting that the Royal Family tribute continued all the way through to the Launer handbags - Her Majesty the Queen's accessory of choice, no less.

The duo pulled off their most accomplished show yet while collaborating with Chupa-Chups lollipops. The FROW enjoyed a sugar rush from super-sized treats while giant sculptures of melted sweet wrappers adored the catwalk.

Gimmicks aside, the clothes were beautifully cut, modern and fresh: parachute silks with tie sides, jumpsuits in vivid lilac, rainbow ombre kagouls and bacofoil dresses. Good news for all athleisure, slider-loving ladies who like their fashion served with a little twist.
