Why actress Rachel Bloom had to buy her own Emmys dress

The actress was unable to hire a gown in her size

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom bought her own Gucci dress for the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards after she was unable to hire a gown in her size. The actress, who also co-created the hit TV show, wowed in a black dress by the fashion house on Sunday night, which boasted spaghetti straps and a low-cut lace top.

Rachel forked out around $3,500 (£2,600) for the creation and admitted it's a struggle to find labels that will loan her non-sample size outfits.

"I bought this dress because Gucci is not lending me a dress. I love it and I can resell it. I'm now at the place where I can afford it," she told E!'s pre-awards show, Live From the Red Carpet. "So I said in an interview before, sometimes it's hard to get places to lend me dresses because I'm not like a size zero, but also I can afford it so it's okay."

A-list opt for floor-sweeping designs at Emmy Awards

The 30-year-old did take to Twitter to clarify her comment though, telling her followers after the ceremony: "To be clear: we didn't ask Gucci to dress me b/c (because) they loan to very few. That being said, pickings are still slim for non-sample size ladies."

Rachel accessorised the dress with a black clutch bag by Tyler Ellis and jewellery from Csarite.

She may have appeared to ooze confidence in front of the cameras but the star admitted to E! News that the whole process of getting ready for such a big event fills her with anxiety.

Guess which actress just broke Emmy records?

"I think what people at home have to understand is this looks very glamorous, but we're all at work right now," she explained. "My songwriting partner is here with me and says everyone here seems so worried so it's really cool, but it's very high stress. People are stepping on dresses, publicists are wondering if they're going fired. You're at work, I'm at work."

Luckily, the pressure didn't stop her from feeling like a "pretty, pretty princess".
