Gisele Bundchen is to receive the Green Carpet Fashion Awards' first-ever Eco Laureate accolade. The Brazilian model has been chosen by Livia Firth, who founded company Eco-Age to help encourage businesses to use sustainable materials, as the recipient of the new award "in recognition of how she has always used her platform to promote not just environmental causes but also solutions."
Livia also cited an example of Gisele's work as she gave updates on the event at La Scala opera house in Milan on Wednesday, naming the fashion star's efforts in helping preserve the Amazon rainforest as a way of changing "the cultural conversation around the world".
Gisele's award will be presented in partnership with Vogue Italia. The event will be taking place at La Scala on Sunday, in the midst of Milan Fashion Week. A square outside the venue will feature a green carpet, in keeping with Livia's Green Carpet Challenge, an initiative which encourages people to wear ethically created outfits in the spotlight in order to raise the profiles of eco-conscious brands.
Italian TV personality Alessandro Cattelan will host the night, with other recipients to be revealed during the ceremony itself. Winners will receive a stunning statuette created by Chopard using Fairmined certified responsibly-sourced gold.
Other guests attending the occasion include singer Annie Lennox, with all proceeds set to be donated to fund The Circle, set up by the Eurythmics star to support women's rights, as well as helping the Community of San Patrignano, offering aid to drug addicts and their families.
