Matt Smith joins Cara Delevingne for Burberry's winter advert

The new advert was unveiled on Wednesday morning

November 2, 2017

Matt Smith and Cara Delevingne have been tapped to front Burberry's new winter campaign. Burberry's official social media accounts shared a video of Matt and Cara modelling its latest collection on Wednesday morning, less than 24 hours after it was announced that president and chief creative officer Christopher Bailey was stepping down from the helm of the British luxury brand after 17 years.

The video, directed by Alasdair McLellan, opens with Cara singing Elvis Presley's Always on My Mind, which then fades into a rendition by the Pet Shop Boys. Starting in black and white, the video shows former Doctor Who star Matt and Cara both looking contemplative, before they feature, separately, dancing around in a snowstorm.

Matt, 35, wears one of the heritage label's famous trench coats in a distinctive checkered pattern, while Cara has been styled in a striking see-through version. Halfway through the video, the advert lightens up, literally, with colour added, and the two campaign stars laugh and joke together while showing off woolly hats, gloves, and scarves. Matt has previous connections to the luxury house; his girlfriend Lily James has posed for the label in the past, and both stars wore head-to-toe Burberry to the 2017 Met Gala in May.

Over his nearly two decades at Burberry, Bailey has cast plenty of famous faces in his campaigns, including Emma Watson, Eddie Redmayne, and James Bay. For the 2016 holiday campaign, Domhnall Gleeson and Sienna Miller led an A-list cast in a short film which retold the story of brand founder Thomas Burberry.
