The first lady and President Donald Trump are currently on an 11-day tour of Asia

Melania Trump was the picture of elegance as she arrived to the Imperial Palace in Tokyo to meet with Japan's Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko. The first lady and President Donald Trump, who are currently on an 11-day tour of Asia, visited the royal residence on Monday, 6 November. Barron Trump's mother opted for a demure, caped dress by Dior for the royal meeting. Melania paired the navy design with her signature Manolo Blank heels, while sweeping her tresses up into an intricate updo. The 47-year-old and the Empress, 83, conversed via an interpreter, while their respective husbands chatted nearby.

The Emperor's wife isn't the first royal Melania has befriended since her husband took office. Ivanka Trump's stepmother has previously hosted Jordan's Queen Rania and has met with Prince Harry in addition to Queen Mathilde and King Philippe of Belgium.

Following her visit to the Imperial Palace on Monday, Melania joined Japan's First Lady Akie Abe at a local elementary school, where they were warmly embraced by students. Donald's wife posed for photos with the children, throwing peace signs up with them.

During the outing, the mum-of-one visited a fourth grade classroom, where she admired their Japanese calligraphy. "Beautiful characters," she said. When asked if she would like to try, she replied, "Fantastic, would love to."

Later in the evening, Melania attended a state banquet. In a sartorial nod to her host country, the first lady of the United States changed into a sophisticated red dress by Valentino. The first couple traveled to Japan to strengthen the United States-Japan Alliance and economic partnership.
