The Bum Bag returns!

The major 90s trend is back

Bum bags are major news right now, and whether you like it or not, the 90s staple is back with a bang. All the rage, the bum bag first gained prestige in the mid 80s, and this polarising trend may seem hard to believe at first, but make no mistake, this little pouch is here to stay and ready to wear.

Dree Hemingway wore a colourful design at the Vogue Fashion Fund Gala

Supermodel Dree Hemingway wore a colourful design at the Vogue Fashion Fund Gala in New York on 6 November, and everyone from Kendall Jenner to A$AP Rocky have been sporting this trend ever since. And who can forget when Carrie Bradshaw wore the printed Gucci version slung over her striped pencil skirt, teamed with a crop top? The ultimate fashion #throwback. Aside from the fact they are incredibly durable; one is able to store all their daily essentials in one hit, leaving hands free to scroll. They can really add an edge to your ensembles, particularly if you are wearing a plain outfit, and want to add a gentle pop of colour. They are made in an abundance of colours, textures, modern prints and even metallic sheens. Definitely forget polyester 'fanny packs' that you’ve seen on Mr Motivator; these days, they epitomise a whole new generation.

The easiest way to work them in to your outfit is to select a well-made design, rather like this one from Theory. We love the vibrant red shade, the gold hardware, and the fact it’s attached to a structured belt. We would team this with skinny jeans and a crew-necked jumper, which would update any casual attire.

Gucci, £715

Another way to make the bum bag work for you is to wear over a coat, making the bag appear kind of like a large belt. The Gucci Marmont creation in teal would look incredible styled up over a romantic, floral print tea dress, which would give any dress an instant contemporary feel.

Karlie Kloss works the quilted look in Chanel

Quilted offerings, rather like this Chanel design that Karlie Kloss sported recently, makes for a hip-hugging, classic shape. Debenhams have produced a generous-sized, £20 pouch, which also sports a striking gold zip.

In short- embrace this trend, but remember to leave the perms and roller-skates behind..
