Princess Diana sparkled in this black beaded dress designed by one of her favourite designers Azagury back in 1995, when she was named Humanitarian of the Year by the United Cerebral Palsy of New York. Meghan Markle was pictured in a black off-the-shoulder dress with a similar wow factor in 2012, when she attended the Suits Story fashion show – also in New York.  In 1996 on a trip to Australia, meanwhile, Diana looked breath-taking in an ice blue one-shouldered silk Versace gown while on the red carpet, which she teamed with co-ordinating clutch and shoes. Recently Meghan Markle was photographed wearing a one-shouldered cobalt blue number while in LA, which she teamed with leg-lengthening black stilettos.

A crisp classic white shirt featured a lot in Princess Diana’s wardrobe, which she would often team with chinos or high waisted jeans. Showing off her slim figure in a white shirt, Meghan Markle follows suit, and is often pictured at events in the timeless fashion staple. In fact, Meghan even chose to wear a to wear one for her debut appearance with Prince Harry at the Invictus Games in Toronto in September. Princess Diana may have been shy but she embraced the colour red and wore this dress in 1995 that displayed her envious long legs. Last year, while on the Today Show, in New York, Meghan was pictured wearing a red frock with her slim limbs also on show, which looked gorgeous paired with matching accessories – a satin clutch and velvet heels.

Meghan is reportedly set to move in with Prince Harry at his home, Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, having moved out of her rented Toronto house earlier this week. Meghan's new home has previously served as a resindence for royals including Princess Diana herself. Just like Diana, all eyes have been on Meghan's outfit choices since the news broke last year that she was dating Harry. Earlier in the month, American-born fashion designer Ben de Lisi spoke to HELLO! Online about Meghan's style, comparing it to the Duchess of Cambridge. Ben likened Meghan's style as "slightly edgier" than Kate's, and defined it as "classic chic." He said: "From photographs, I see her style as classic chic. It’s quite clean, and I don’t see it as gratuitous fashion trends - I like the concept of her wearing a white shirt and jeans and flats with a beautiful statement bag. I think she’s all about the understatement."

Buckingham Palace, meanwhile, has responded to reports that the couple are set to announce their impending wedding. Addressing the fervent speculation on Friday, a spokesperson for the Palace on Friday refused to comment, stating that they "would not give a running commentary on Harry's love life". It comes as bookmarkers confirmed they have suspended all bets on an engagement announcement between Harry, 33, and the American actress, 36. A spokesperson for William Hill said in a statement: "We believe the happy couple are already engaged and possible have been for some time."
