When you think of chainmail, you will be forgiven to reverting your mind back to the early nineties when the bold texture was embraced by clubbers galore. Also, Paris Hilton in her wild party days may be embedded in your memory! It wasn't always seen as a fashionable trend, in fact, it definitely divides people and is seen as a total talking point; you either love it or hate it. However, it is certainly having a real style transition lately, and it's surprisingly easy to pull off.

We love this ASOS dress, £75

Supermodels Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell were papped in the dazzling material way back in 1999, and modern-day fashion princess Kendall Jenner recently followed suit, gleaming at her 21st birthday bash, when she donned a tiny chainmail number. Many designers have gone all Metallica on us, making armour style dresses for the new-age girl.

Margot Robbie looks stunning in chainmail dress by Rani Zakhem

On Wednesday evening, stunning Wolf of Wall Street actress Margot Robbie attended the premiere of her new film I, Tonya in a gold gown by Rani Zakhem. She defined her shape with a black waist-cinching belt. The dress was a great cut on the star, and she went all-out on chainmail, without looking like a fashion victim or a nineties teen.

Earrings, £4.19, New Look

As with many current fashion fads, if you aren't ready to embrace it fully, a gentle nod with one or two items will always suffice. This striking dress by ASOS is made in a drape-back cut and is designed in a flattering midi-length, which you could team with a statement black blazer and simple black court-shoes. We love the chainmail drop earrings by New Look - which are totally appropriate for Christmas! Lastly, this swish gold chainmail bag from Topshop is great NYE arm candy. What a chain reaction!
