It was a big day for Princess Charlotte on Monday as the two-year-old started her first day of nursery. And after photos taken by the Duchess of Cambridge were released by Kensington Palace to mark the special occasion, all eyes were on the little girl's adorable outfit - especially her pink pony print rucksack. The cute design is by popular high street brand Cath Kidston – a favourite with celebrities including Fearne Cotton, who has designed for them. And although the rucksack from their Spring/Summer '17 collection is now sold out, the drawstring version of the bag is currently being sold online at Magpie Poundbury for just £12.

Cath Kidston is also planning on launching a similar bag to the one Princess Charlotte owns as part of their Spring/Summer '18 collection. The brand told HELLO! Online: "We are overjoyed that Princess Charlotte was seen carrying Cath Kidston’s Pony Rucksack on her first day of nursery. Unfortunately, this was part of our Spring/Summer 17 range and is no longer available. However, we do have a similar product launching as part of our Spring/Summer 18 collection, which will land in-stores and online on 15th January. The new print is called ‘Prancing Ponies’ and will feature across a range of kids' products, including backpacks."

Charlotte wrapped up warm for her big day in a burgundy double-breasted wool coat by Amaia Kids, which is priced at £120.00, and is currently still in stock, unlike the grey version – which is completely sold out. The little girl teamed the coat with grey cable knit tights and a pink cashmere cable knit scarf by Marie-Chantal. A pair of £27.00 Mary Jane shoes from Spanish designer Dona Carmen, and a red hair tie – also by Amaia Kids – completed her look.

Charlotte, who turns three in May, is a full-time pupil at Willcocks Nursery School. Last month, the palace revealed that she would start nursery in January. A statement explained that Prince William and Kate had chosen the school because "they felt it was ideal as a first step for Princess Charlotte's early education and they were impressed by the team that work there".

The £14,500-a-year school is owned and run by headmistress Lavinia Taylor. In 2015, Tatler described the nursery as a "hidden gem" in Kensington, attended by children of "old English families and chic foreigners". The magazine added: "Kindness is evident everywhere, plus the nursery is a cooperative, so you know staff are in it for the long haul."
