ASOS makes a typo on its packaging but gave the best response to the blunder

It’s limited edition, dontcha know?

Sometimes, when you make a mistake, the best thing to do is hold your hands up and confess - and that’s exactly what ASOS did with its latest oopsy-daisy moment. The online retailer bodged up 17,000 bags, but the way the mishap was handled was just too excellent. The brand’s social media editor tweeted a photo of the bag (featuring the spelling mistake) and captioned it: “Ok, so we *may* have printed 17,000 bags with a typo. We’re calling it a limited edition.” Can you see the mistake? Yep, the word ‘online’ is spelt wrong.

ASOS plastic bags feature a typo

I don’t know about you but I’m desperate to get hold of this new limited edition bag – it’s what every style maven needs for spring summer 2018. If you haven’t got one, you’re really not on trend. Other brands would have scrapped the 17,000 bags, and dumped them in the recycling bin, but thankfully ASOS didn’t go down that route, and decided honesty was the best policy.

Since posting the picture on Twitter it has received more than 33,000 likes and over 5,000 retweets.

There has been an excellent reaction to the blunder on social media, with one Twitter user replying to ASOS: “Watch ebay go mad with people selling for £1000’s.” And another wise owl suggested to the brand that “a limited edition T-shirt with that typo” was needed, and stat!

When user Tom Cuckow asked if the packaging was recyclable, ASOS’s sister Twitter account, @ASOS_HeretoHelp, replied: "As an online retailer, we source over 40 million plastic mailing bags and 5 million cardboard mailing boxes a year, all of which are recyclable!”

Major high five to the ASOS social squad for this one.
