Proud big brother Prince George looked all grown up when he arrived at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, London today to meet his new younger sibling for the first time. His mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth to a baby boy at 11.01am meaning that the four-year-old is now the eldest of three and little sister Princess Charlotte, two, is a middle child. The little royal finished class at Thomas' Battersea school, where he is in reception, and arrived at the hospital along with his father Prince William and his sister, still in his school uniform of navy shorts, buckle shows, a blue shirt and v-neck navy jumper embellished with the school's logo. The three walked into the hospital's Lindo Wing hand-in-hand.

It was no surprise that the little royal's uniform features a pair of shorts – as well as being suitable for the current warmer weather, they've become something of a trademark look for the prince. He is spotted in them every time he steps out in public, whether at an official appearance, family gathering or for a photoshoot. However, this has nothing to do with trends, and is all about carrying on royal and aristocratic tradition.

"Prince George is always seen in shorts because upper class and upper middle class parents believe that little boys should look like little boys, and so try to keep their offspring looking as cute and innocent for as long as possible," British etiquette coach William Hanson told HELLO!
"It's one of the many silent class indicators we have in Britain. Trousers on young boys is considered a tad suburban and lower market." William explains that the practice has its routes in the 16th century tradition of breeching, when newborn boys would be dressed in a gown for their first year or two to aid with toilet training.

The Lindo Wing at St Mary's hospital is the same place that Duchess Kate gave birth to George back in 2013, and he was first introduced to the world on the steps of the building. Prince William joked that he "has a good pair of lungs on him, that's for sure," and added that he appeared to have his mother's looks. Kate looked radiant and beaming as she cradled partially-awake George in a blanket while wearing a pretty cornflower blue smock.
Little sister Princess Charlotte was also born at the same location in 2015. The hospital is just ten minutes from the Cambridges' Kensington Palace home, making it super-convenient for the family.
