When the women steal the show! Why everyone is talking about Melania Trump & Brigitte Macron

The First Ladies club is here!

April 24, 2018

Political pundits have been eagerly following French President Emmanuel Macron's first trip to the White House in Washington DC. And while journalists will be desperate to find out what he discussed with US President Donald Trump, we can't help but think the real stars of the show are the women. Brigitte Macron and Melania Trump were spotted twinning in all-white jacket and dress combos, easily diverting attention away from their husbands – who were, rather predictably, both dressed in uninspiring black suits.

The first ladies twinned in all-white

Brigitte, who looks incredible at 65, picked a suitably chic white shift dress, which she teamed with a matching Chanel-style jacket – as well as looking glamorous, it added a nice touch of patriotic French style. She teamed the look with simple black court shoes and wore her hair sleekly blowdried.

Melania, 47, went for a slightly more daring Michael Kors asymmetric jacket and pencil skirt from the designer's Spring/Summer 2018 ready-to-wear collection, nipped in at the waist with a chunky belt. She added a wide-brimmed white hat and a pair of Christian Louboutin Kate point-toe denim pumps, which retail for just under £600. To top it off, she also sported an all-white manicure.

We wonder if the two first ladies swapped any tips on dealing with their public positions – after all, it wouldn't be the first time Melania has been offered advice by the wife of a French president. Back in October Carla Bruni, who is married to former president Nicolas Sarkozy, discussed the former model while appearing on Watch What Happens Live. She said: "The advice is maybe you don't want to think that, it's not the person that really counts. It's the position. The person sort of goes behind the position, so when you get criticised or something it's not you. It's just the position."

She also admitted: "It's great honour but it’s a strange position because it's coming from your husband," before adding: "It didn't bother me at all. It was really nice. It was really an incredible experience, but I was always paying attention not to say something wrong."
