Selena Gomez has always been open about her religious beliefs – even her Instagram bio reads "by grace, through faith". So given that this year's Met Gala theme was catholicism and its influence on fashion, it made sense that the singer's outfit would also reference her spirituality. She looked absolutely ethereal in a layered chiffon dress embellished with lace, ribbons, crystals and studs and it seems Selena's dress was particularly personal to her, as it has been revealed that the 25-year-old worked closely with her designer to ensure that her dress perfectly encapsulated both her personality and beliefs.
Selena's stunning look was the result of a special collaboration
"The starting point when I work with Selena is always Selena," Coach 1941 designer Stuart Vevers, who created Selena's ethereal gown, told Vogue. "She has such an effortless sense of style, and we wanted to evoke that graceful and easy feeling." Selena is an ambassador for the brand, and the pair have developed a close personal relationship that verges into collaboration. Selena also wore his looks to last year's Met Gala, the AMAs and the British Fashion Awards, and has even helped design a few pieces – she worked on the Grace clutch bag that she has previously carried, and at this year's Gala she accessorised with a bag embossed with her handwriting.
This look represents the next step in collaboration for the pair, as they took the floor-length gowns from the label's Autumn 2018 collection and transformed them into the dreamlike piece Selena sported on the red carpet. "Selena wanted something light and fresh," Stuart explained. "The Coach girl I design for is authentic, honest, and possesses a romantic charm mixed with a cool attitude. Selena embodies all of those qualities."

She teamed the look with a relaxed, casual up 'do – keeping fans guessing her current hairstyle after recently sporting three different looks in the space of a week – and added striking glittery eye makeup to give her ethereal look a slight rock'n'roll edge. She finished it off with a pair of statement stud earrings.
