The sentimental reason why Duchess Camilla has been wearing these shoes for over a decade

She wore the style twice in the last week

June 25, 2018

The Duchess of Cornwall is loved by royal watchers for her chic, timeless style and fabulous use of accessories. And avid Camilla fans may have noticed that Prince Charles' wife is particularly fond of one accessory in particular – a pair of cream Chanel heeled pumps with a distinctive black toe cap. Camilla has worn the style – which is no longer available to buy – regularly since 2005. Just last week she was spotted in them on two separate occasions – paired with a white Fiona Clare dress at an event for the Elephant Family charity, and with a blue polka dot frock during a trip to Salisbury with Charles.

The simple shoes are chic and versatile

Of course the Duchess may love the shoes for their versatility and comfort, but it has been suggested there could be a more sentimental reason behind her preference. Chanel's logo takes the form of two interlocking C's – which, of course, also stands for Charles and Camilla.

Princess Diana also refused to wear Chanel shoes for the same reason, according to Australian designer Jayson Brundson. "I went through [all the shoe options], and I found a pair of Chanel shoes, and I said, 'well these would look great with the Versace [you're planning to wear]' and she said 'no, I can't wear linked Cs, the double C'," he told Harper's Bazaar Australia. "So I asked why, and she said, 'it's Camilla and Charles'."

Another aspect of the shoes that may appeal to Camilla is their monochrome palette. The Duchess is regularly spotted in black and white outfits, most recently while twinning with the Countess of Wessex at the Most Nobel Order of the Garter Ceremony at St George's Chapel in Windsor on Monday. Both ladies wore outfits which had monochrome detail – Sophie brought the glamour in a 50s-style while dress that was cut with a square neckline and designed with a black print emblazoned over the top. Duchess Camilla mirrored Sophie and looked stunning in a dress and jacket two-piece combo.
