It's a sad day for fashion with the news that Irish designer Orla Kiely is to cease trading. The fashion designer - who is known as the 'queen of prints' - is celebrated for her pretty floral style, with high profile clients such as the Duchess of Cambridge, her sister Pippa Middleton and model Alexa Chung often seen wearing her designs. The news will come as a shock to the fashion world, who adore Orla's clothes as much as we do. The designer began her career creating hats and handbags before seeing huge success with her clothing line. Now she is to close her retail stores in both London and Kildare and her online business. Many will see the news as a sign of the times as stores struggle against online competition.

On the Orla Kiely website, a statement read: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Orla Kiely's Home and Design licensing business will not be impacted, and its selection of accessories and homewares will continue to be sold through its distribution partners. Thank you for embracing our brand and designs throughout the years and for your ongoing support."

No doubt Duchess Kate will be saddened at the news that one of her favourite designers is closing. The royal has worn Orla's dresses on several occasions, from her black and pink floral dress during her third pregnancy to a chic grey plated daisy dress back in 2015.
