Getting ready for the BAFTAs: Roxie Nafousi explains why you shouldn't be afraid of getting a fringe

"If anyone asks me if they should change their hair my answer is always yes."

February 21, 2023

"I think a haircut almost feels like you step into a new version of yourself," Manifestation guru Roxie Nafousi tells Hello! Fashion, "Every time I have a big hair change I find a new sense of confidence. It’s like a mini re-invention on the outside, that you then want to reflect on the inside. That is empowering."

The self-development coach, manifesting expert and author of Sunday Times Bestseller Manifest, (a book which counts supermodels Bella Hadid and Shanina Shaik as fans) decided to get a fringe just before making her debut at the 2023 BAFTA x British Vogue party. "Your hairstyle is part of your identity and so when you change it, it’s as though you then reveal a new part of yourself. If anyone asks me if they should change their hair my answer is always yes," she explains.

Roxie spent her evening at The London Edition getting ready

"I’ve actually been losing my hair around the hairline for the last year, and I just started treatment with trichologist Hannah Gaboardi, but in the interim I felt like a fringe would help make the hairline seem fuller and distract from where I felt the hairline was moving back." She then texted her hairdresser Hadley Yates to ask what he thought and he said 'let’s do it tomorrow.'

"We did a soft, long, wispy fringe and I loved it straight away, and it definitely worked with hiding any hair loss," Roxie explains.

Roxie Nafousi explains exactly how she got ready for her BAFTA night out:

I actually started the day with a workout at Bodyism, as I wanted to feel energised for the day knowing that I was going to have to stay up much later than my usual 9pm bedtime. I also find I always look more radiant when I’ve done some exercise and got my circulation going. Then I spent the rest of the day with my son Wolfe, before heading to the London Edition hotel to start the glam process.

How did you decide on your outfit?

"Net-A-Porter very kindly dressed me for the night and because they have so many incredible brands I had an amazing selection to choose from. I worked with my stylist Laura Gabriele, and it came down to a red Alessandra Rich dress or the white Emilia Wickstead one. I texted my girl group on WhatsApp for the final decision and the majority vote was the white, so I went with that! It was the perfect look for me though, I thought the dress was sexy and feminine whilst still being sophisticated and chic. I felt really good in it. I paired it with an old pair of silver Prada heels that I’ve had for about 10 years."

Tell us about the glam process?

"I had an amazing glam team for the night. Kate Glanfield did my make up and Jack Luckhurst was on hair. It took about two hours in total. For hair, Jack cut my fringe shorter to make it feel like more of a ‘look’ and kept the rest classic but with volume and body. I love that Jack puts my hair in rollers because it always feels so old-school in a good way. Kate went for a 90s inspired makeup look with a slight cut-crease and almond eye. I love that Kate used some products I haven’t used for ages, like MAC studio fix and Benefit’s Hoola powder. The make-up didn’t move all night."

What was the BAFTA x Vogue party like?

"It just oozed cool. It was such a good vibe and I loved people watching. Everyone was there, from Anna Wintour to Jamie Foxx."
