What is CBD?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. Unlike cannabis, CBD does not contain THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive element which brings about the 'high' sensation.
Many beauty brands have cottoned onto the ingredient in the last few years and now offer products containing CBD – from bath oils and serums to perfumes and gel eye patches.

What are the potential beauty benefits of CBD?
CBD is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Antioxidants are often used in skincare products that target visible signs of ageing, and so CBD skincare has the potential to reduce the appearance of fine lines. It can also help minimise skin issues associated with sensitivity such as redness on account of its soothing nature.
A recent report found that last year, the global CBD skincare market was valued at over $964m, and that amount is set to grow. Consumers are intrigued and wanting to know more, as evidenced by recent search trends. According to research conducted by SpaSeekers, the top five most searched for CBD beauty products are bath salts, bath bombs, eye cream, serum and face oil, in that order.
