Princess Mette-Marit keeps her son warm at ski festival

March 19, 2013

It's a touching scene as Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit wraps her young son Sverre Magnus, seven, up in a big hug to protect him from the biting cold. Crown Prince Haakon's wife, 39, enjoyed the tender moment with her child as they watched the Holmenkollen Ski Festival together. Mette-Marit took Sverre Magnus and his sister Princess Ingrid, nine, along to watch the action during a family day out.

While there was no sign of Haakon, King Harlad and his wife Sonja were also in the stands. The Norwegian royal family always makes a point of attending the annual ski festival in Holmenkollen, which is on the outskirts of Oslo, much to the delight of the thousands of spectators who gather at the event. This year was no exception. It was recently announced that Mette-Marit and Prince Haakon will visit the US at the start of May for a five-day trip. The couple will begin their trip in Houston, Texas, before touring technology companies in San Francisco's Silicon Valley.

It will be something of a return for Haakon, who graduated from California's prestigious Berkeley University with a Bachelor's Degree in political science.
